Loudon Medical Office Building
W.E. Welch & Associates was awarded the mechanical portion for the Loudon Medical Office Building & Ambulatory Care Center. The 5-story, 110,500 square foot building is located in Leesburg, VA and connects to the hospital’s existing emergency room. Construction included a steam line tie-in and substantial utility service tie-ins to the existing hospital while the facility remained in use. Blackwell Office Building
W.E. Welch & Associates was awarded the mechanical portion of the Blackwell Office Building 1 & Office Building 2 projects. Located in Rockville, MD, Blackwell 1 is a 5-story 130,000 square foot building (completed in 2000); Blackwell 2 is a 5-story 110,000 square foot building (completed in 2001). Covenant Life Church and School
W.E. Welch & Associates was awarded the mechanical portion of the Covenant Life Church in Gaithersburg, MD on a design build basis. The church, with a seating capacity of 3,200 is unique in that it includes mechanical bleacher seats transforming the gym area into additional seating for the congregation, its own recording studio, school and features an auditorium used for concerts and conferences. White Flint Plaza
W. E. Welch & Associates was awarded the mechanical portion of the White Flint Plaza project. Located at the White Flint Metro Station, this project encompasses two 16-story towers comprised of 453 residential units including penthouses. Lansdowne Clubhouse at Lansdowne Resort
Located at Lansdowne Resort in Lansdowne, VA this 45,000-square-foot clubhouse offers a comfortable luxury county estate atmosphere for hosting a special event, social gathering or relaxing after a round of golf. 777 6th Street
W.E. Welch & Associates was awarded the Plumbing & HVAC contract for the 777 6th Street project. Located in N.W. Washington, DC, this project is an 11-story, 200,000 square foot office building with 75,000 square foot 4-level underground parking garage.

Liberty Loan - GSA Building Renovation

 This work included upgrades to mechanical equipment rooms from the basement to the 5th floor while the building remained occupied.  Construction included heavy demolition/rigging, through an exterior louver, of six modular air handling units, ductwork, chilled/heating water piping, central return fans and controls.  New work consisted of installation/rigging of new modular air handling units, ductwork, chilled/heating water piping and specialties, central return fans and upgraded system controls.

This interior alteration included installing HVAC, Mechanical and Plumbing.  Design elements included in the construction of this project include variable flow refrigerant systems, building ATC upgrade, dry coolers & pump packages serving computer room CRAC units, new medium and low pressure duct system serving single duct VAV terminal units.

Gibson Plaza Apartment, HUD Funded-Renovation

This work included installing HVAC systems serving this 10 story-217 unit apartment building.  HVAC design elements included in this 220,238 sq. ft renovation were through the wall split system heat pump serving efficiencies to three-bedroom apartments and the 2,400 sq.ft apartment addition.  Conventional split systems served the expanded community and laundry facility.  Mechanical green building sustainable features were implemented for the equipment serving the building air filtration/recycling of the apartments exhaust by means of energy recovery ventilators.

Department of Veterans Affairs – Renovations

Building 500 Suite 6B

Martinsburg, WV

This work includes renovation of approximately 11,500 square feet of space.  Construction includes cap and make safe for demo medical gas, water lines, waste, vent, controls and ductwork.  New work consists of installation of medium pressure duct mains servicing dual duct VAV boxes, updated controls and workstation, addition of a women’s and men’s bathroom.

Winder GSA Federal Office Building-Rennovation

This design build assist office building included sustainable design upgrades while the building remains occupied.  Occupied space construction included phased demolition of 2-pipe chilled/steam heating water piping, 2-pipe FCUS and ductwork. Occupied new work consisted of phased installation of ductwork, 4-pipe copper press risers, pex run-outs to new 4-pipe FCUS and integration of DDC of the new FCUS to the campus network.  Unoccupied space construction included seasonal demolition of the 2-pipe steam heating/chilled water mains and associated pumps with new 4-pipe victaulic chilled/steam heating water mains and pumps.

This work includes installing Mechanical, HVAC and Plumbing systems serving this 19 story-300 unit luxury apartment building, 4 levels of underground parking and courtyard pool.  HVAC design elements included in the construction of this project include two pipe water source heat pumps serving the apartments and common areas.  Mechanical green building sustainable features designed to achieve LEED silver certification were implemented in enhanced commissioning of mechanical systems, water efficient fixtures and superior indoor air quality.

Northern Exchange-Historic Building Renovation

Sibley Cancer Center

This project consists of approximately 20,000 SF of Cancer Center at the first floor and 20,000 SF of mechanical and electrical space in the basement level. There is a connecting corridor to the existing medical office building at the main level. The Cancer Center includes three linear accelerator rooms and one simulator, 17 exam rooms and staff support areas. All exam rooms have a hand sink and medical gas stations; oxygen, nitrogen, vacuum and nitrous oxide.

This building is to be certified LEEDS Silver.

Lorton Arts Foundation – Events Center / Kids Zone / Theater / Administration Office

 

A design build project to convert nine historic prison buildings into an artist colony. This project will include an Art Gallery, Day Care Center, Theater, Restaurant, Prison Museum, Glass Shop, Cafe and an Events Center.

 

The Kids Zone building utilizes split system type units. Individual air handling units are located in the Main Mechanical Mezzanine. The building houses the administration offices, conference room, classrooms, daycare area, locker room and showers, and a theater with stage. On the lower level there is a Maintenance facility.

 

The Events Center building utilizes a central air handling unit that delivers varying quantities of air to the VAV boxes located throughout the facility. The building houses multiple conference and dining rooms, reception areas and a large commercial kitchen. There are multiple gang bathrooms throughout the facility.
